By the end of 2026, 50 km of federal highways in Stavropol will become four-lane
Roman Novikov, Head of the Federal Road Agency, held a meeting with Vladimir Vladimirovich, Governor of the Stavropol Territory, as part of a working trip to the regions of the North Caucasus Federal District. This is reported by the press service of Rosavtodor.
Roman Novikov noted the improvement of road safety in the region. According to him, in the first three months of 2025, the number of road accidents in Stavropol decreased by 22.3% compared to the same period in 2024, and the number of injured and killed in accidents decreased by 29.2% and 14.3%, respectively. Currently, 80.16% of the main road network is in a standard condition within the region. The total length of the main road network is 1,818.2 km, which is 826.3 km of federal highways and 991.9 km of regional highways.
The federal highway network will be expanded to four lanes of about 50 km by the end of 2026. These are the sections of major repairs on the roads R-217 Kavkaz, the entrance to Stavropol (from 43rd to 55th km), R-216 Astrakhan - Elista - Stavropol (from 455th to 468th km) and A–165 Lermontov – Cherkessk (from 0th to 27th km). Thus, the Tatarka-Nadezhda section in the Leninsky district will become four–lane on the R-217 highway, which will increase the capacity to 30 thousand cars per day. Currently, a road surface is being installed at the facility, oncoming traffic will be separated by a fence, and eight traffic lights with a call button, 14 stops with autopavillions, sidewalks and a railing will be installed for pedestrians. The facility will be commissioned in 2026.
The section of the R-216 highway in Ipatovo district, 13 km long from Ipatovo towards Svetlograd, is also being expanded to four lanes. The facility is expanding and strengthening the roadbed using geotextiles, arranging the base and asphalt. Work began in April 2022 and will be completed by the end of 2026. By the same date, two bridges over the Kuban River on the 229th km of the R-217 highway will be repaired in the Nevinnomyssk area. The two-lane crossings with a length of 145 meters could no longer cope with modern loads, and thanks to the repair work, the transport and operational characteristics of the structures will be restored.
In 2025, 50 road facilities will be brought to standard on regional and local roads as part of the national project "Infrastructure for Life" in the Stavropol Territory: 134 km of roads and 375 meters of bridge structures. 4.93 billion rubles have been allocated for these purposes, including 3.2 billion rubles from the federal budget, 1.6 billion rubles from the regional budget, and the rest of the funds are allocated from local budgets.
The longest repair facility on local roads is a 9 km long section of the Essentuki – Kislovodsk State Farm highway, which connects the Foothill District with the nearest cities, providing an opportunity for labor migration. 70% of the work has been completed at the facility. 23 sections and five bridge structures will be renovated on the regional highway network. Among the objects are a section of the Svetlograd – Blagodarny – Budennovsk highway with a length of 7 km, which connects three municipal districts, the Budennovsk – Achikulak – Neftekumsk road with a length of more than 7 km, a segment of the Stavropol – Izobilny – Novoalexandrovsk – Krasnogvardeyskoye highway with a length of almost 8 km, as well as the Sengileevskoye – Novotroitskaya tourist route.
In addition, the reconstruction of the Kislovodsk–Karachayevsk road within the borders of Stavropol is scheduled to begin in 2025. The work on the site, which is about 7 km long, will last two years. The facility is included in the regional targeted investment program for 2025 and the planning period of 2026 and 2027, approved by the regional government in the fall of 2024. This year, more than 530 million rubles have been allocated from the federal budget for the implementation of the project. The work is scheduled to be completed in 2026.
