Russians are forbidden to ride on studded tires
On June 1, a seasonal ban on driving with studded winter tires came into force. The traffic police may impose a sanction in the form of a warning or a fine of 500 rubles. The ban will be in effect until September 1.
In 2023, amendments to government Decree No. 1090 introduced the obligation for drivers to use seasonal tires: in summer – without spikes, in winter – winter tires. Previously, this norm was fixed in the technical regulations of the Customs Union "On the safety of wheeled vehicles", however, penalties were not provided for its violation. In 2015, Rosavtodor estimated the annual damage to the economy from the use of studded tires at about 220 billion rubles, associated with excessive wear on the road surface.
On June 1 of this year, a seasonal ban on the use of studded winter tires came into force. The traffic police has the right to apply a warning or a fine of 500 rubles for violating this ban. The restriction is valid until September 1. At the same time, non-studded winter tires (the so-called Velcro) are allowed, for the use of which fines are not provided.
