Automatic driver's license renewal is no longer valid in Russia
Driver's licenses, which expired in the Russian Federation in 2022 and were then automatically renewed, must be replaced on April 1. As follows from the government decree that came into force, drivers will need to undergo a medical examination, pay a fee and come to the traffic police for a new ID.
By a government decree in April 2022, the validity period of driver's licenses, which expired in 2022-2023, was extended by three years. Similar resolutions were adopted in 2023 and 2024. Accordingly, drivers whose licenses were automatically extended for 3 years in 2022 will have to undergo a renewal procedure starting from April 1 of this year.
Driving with an invalid license in Russia is subject to a fine of up to 15,000 rubles and suspension from driving until the rights are restored.
